HAMMER NAILED IT!
If you've read the first three Mike Hammer books then you've pretty much read all of Mickey Spillane's Hammer-works––Spillane was a cookie cutter novelist, using the (almost) same plots, nearly the same character dialogue and the same womanizing language. As for P.I. Mike Hammer, he had the mentality of a middle school punk on steroids.
With that said, it was very cool to see Mike Hammer come to life on the big screen. Ralph Meeker was the ideal choice for Hammer, as was Maxine Cooper as Velda.
This is Hollywood film noir at its most masterly arrangement. Though, I wish it had been filmed in NYC instead of L.A. –– staying with Spillane's original NYC setting.
It's a very beautiful print, too. Clear and crisp.

Kiss Me Deadly
Kiss Me Deadly has been cited as a stylistic predecessor of the French New Wave.[19] François Truffaut has acknowledged its influence on his "elliptic" filmmaking style,[19] as has Jean-Luc Godard.[24] In the 1960s, both filmmakers touted the film as the single American film "most responsible for the French New Wave."

Noir at its finest
I'm a sucker for a good film noir tale and this is pretty durn good. Dragged a bit in places admittedly but on the whole is a fine addition to your collection or just to watch. Cloris Leachmans first role as a bonus.
